About Us

The PCT Southern Terminus Shuttle is the brainchild of two experienced thru-hikers, Paul (Just Paul) and Dee (OneSpeed). Together they have thru-hiked the Trans Catalina Trail (TCT), the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT), The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), The Camino de Santiago, The Chilkoot Trail, and numerous other “shorter” trails in-between. They most recently completed the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) and are on track to complete their Triple Crown of hiking, starting the Appalachian Trail (AT) SOBO in July of 2024.

Their breath of experience in logistics and often its challenges, inspired them to create and offer a reliable and affordable shuttle service to and from the Southern Terminus of the PCT. For those traveling from out of state and/or out of the country, getting to the PCT Southern Terminus can be daunting and often a logistical “nightmare”. Especially, if one needs to purchase additional and necessary items to begin a thru-hike that were restricted because of their method of travel.

Our thought was that if we can provide a centralized location for pick-up for those arriving by Train, Plane or Bus that is also within close proximity to affordable hotel/motels, we could reduce if not relieve the stress of “How do I get to the trailhead?”. While we know that there are several trail angels in the San Diego area, and a compilation of buses that will get you near the PCT Southern Terminus, that is just one more “headache” to figure out. Often times, the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) method is one’s best approach. Hence, the PCT Southern Terminus Shuttle service. Our aim is to provide a one stop shop to the following logistical questions that must be answered before one even sets foot on the trail.

How do I get to the PCT Southern Terminus?

  • How do I get from the PCT Southern Terminus to the train, plane or bus? (for SOBOs)

  • How do I get supplies for my first week on the trail?

  • How and where do/can I purchase items for my hike that I could not bring with me?

In 2023, we partnered with the non-profit, Camp Lockett Equestrian and Events Facility, commonly known as CLEEF, to manage their PCT Campground operation. We are in the process of assisting CLEEF in the re-branding of the campground to “Camp Lockett” and improving the camping experience for our PCT hikers. As such, our
team has been hard at work, dedicated to improving our amenities and facilities to provide an even better camping experience for all of our visitors. We believe in the importance of creating a comfortable and enjoyable environment, to best send you off on your PCT hiking adventure.

As such, we are thrilled to announce major improvements to our camping facilities.

Additional and flatter campsites: Responding to the growing demands of outdoor enthusiasts, we have increased the available area for camping and added flatter sites, enhancing the overall experience for hikers. Understanding the desire for level ground to set up tents and secure a good night's sleep, our team has painstakingly worked to introduce flatter campsite options. By smoothing out uneven terrain and eliminating natural obstacles, we have created more suitable spaces for hikers to pitch their tents, yielding a more comfortable camping experience.
These flatter sites will immensely benefit hikers, especially those seeking a respite after a long day’s (or several days) travel to get to the trail.

Upgraded Facilities: We understand that comfort and convenience are essential elements of any successful camping experience. In response, we are investing in upgraded restroom facilities, which will now include modern amenities like hot showers and a laundry room. Additionally, we will be adding more restroom facilities closer to the campground for easier access.

We are excited to announce that we have recently upgraded our facility to include electricity and running hot and cold water. Now you can enjoy the beauty of nature without sacrificing modern comforts…just yet. Our newly added electricity feature ensures that you can stay fully connected during your stay. Charge your devices, power your camping gadgets, or simply enjoy the convenience of having electricity at your fingertips. Whether you need to check the weather forecast, update your social media, or simply charge your phone, you can now do so effortlessly at Camp Lockett.

Upgraded Amenities: We have acquired free “loaner” bicycles to better facilitate trips to the Post Office, the Green Store, the Campo Cafe and/or the area museums. Additional outdoor heaters have been added to mitigate those early (and late) season mornings and evenings. A small refrigerator, microwave and BBQ grill are available for use by all our registered campers.

Our Commitment to Hikers
At the PCT Southern Terminus Shuttle and Camp Lockett, we are committed to providing hikers with an exceptional PCT experience. All of our drivers and campground staff are experienced thru-hikers. By expanding the campsite area and introducing flatter sites, adding electricity and hot/cold running water, as well as a food prep area, and lounge area, we are striving to enhance the overall hiker experience and ensure that every hiker feels welcomed and comfortable as they prepare to set out, or finish, the amazing adventure that is the Pacific Crest Trail.
