Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take to get to the PCT Southern Terminus from the Old Town Transit Center?

Without stops, travel time from the Old Town Transit Center to the PCT Southern Terminus generally takes a little over an hour (62 miles away). With stops (adding an additional 10 miles to the journey) and depending on how many and how long everyone takes at those stops (REI, Post Office, Green Store, CLEEF) it generally takes 1.5 - 1.75 hours, with 1.5 hours being the average. Of course, this is also traffic dependent.

*Through March 2024 there will be construction on eastbound Hwy 8, which may add an additonal 20 mins to the drive as the highway is down to one lane.

  • Why a 9:30am pick-up?

Our shuttle service was created with the out of state/country PCT hiker in mind. Often times they are not able to transport items like fuel, trekking poles, tent stakes and knives. Our pick-up time allows us to arrive at the San Diego REI just as they open, so necessary items can be picked up via Curbside or in-store purchases.

  • Where exactly do we pick you up at the Old Town Transit Center?

We pick you up on the west side of the rail tracks in the large public parking lot located under the freeway overpass. When you book your seat, a photo and map of the area is provided to help you better orient yourself before, and once you arrive at the Old Town Transit Center.

  • Does/Will the shuttle pick up at other locations?

We are trying to make getting to the PCT Southern Terminus as simple as possible. In addition to the Old Town Transit Center, we also will pick-up directly from REI. And currently, those who are lucky enough to stay with Trail Angels Scout & Frodo, we will pick you up from there.

When booking your ride, you can select from the “add-on” of REI or Scout & Frodo’s. The general time of arrival, for pick up for those sites, will be close to 15 minutes after we pick up from the Old Town Transit Center.

  • Can I make a same day appointment?

If you are within 8 hours of the scheduled ride time, you can. Under 8 hours, and provided seats are available, just send us an email and we will get you your seat.

  • Can I pay for multiple people to ride the shuttle?

Yes. Select the time you wish to ride the shuttle, and in the “Quantity” box, enter the number of seats you wish to book.

  • Will you offer shuttle rides prior to March 1st?

Yes. February 29th, for those staring March 1st, and wanting to spend the night at CLEEF and have a sunrise start on the 1st.

  • How do I get from the airport to the Old Town Transit Center?

San Diego offers a free San Diego Flyer shuttle, that leaves from Terminals 1 & 2 every 20 mins or so. Click here for more information.

  • What if I need to change my date and/or time?

If your plans change and you need to reschedule to another date, but the SAME time, scroll to the bottom of your confirmation email and click on “Change/Cancel Appointment”. From there you can reschedule to another date with the same time.

If you need to reschedule to another date, but a DIFFERENT time, or the same date with a different time, we will have to do that on our end. Send us an email and we will make that change for you.

As we will be completing our Triple Crown, hiking SOBO on the Appalachian Trail, there will be no opportunity or availability to transport SOBOs this season. Sorry.

  • Can I book a shuttle ride and camping at CLEEF (Camp Lockett) at the same time?

Yes. When you go to book your seat. there will be an option to “Add to your appointment”. Click the box “PCT Camper @ CLEEF @ $10.00”.

As the camping fee is per person, the number of seats you have reserved will automatically be tabulated and added to your total at checkout.

  • Is the $10 camping fee per tent or person?
